Therapeutic Weight Loss Clinic Common Questions

Who comes to the Therapeutic Weight Loss Clinic?

Adults age 18 and over and all levels of health and fitness come to the Therapeutic Weight Loss Center to lose weight, manage or prevent disease, and make healthy lifestyle changes.

How are you different from other weight loss programs?

Our approach emphasizes a holistic approach to lifestyle change rather than just focusing on losing weight. Because we apply the medical model to our treatment approach we are treating the "whole" you rather than just how you look. Our team of  experts work in conjunction with each other to each individual with a specialized and individualized treatment. Lifestyle changes are long term and need a more focused approach which results in a successful, and long term treatment of obesity and weight loss. You will be working with a team of experts in the fields of nutrition, health management, fitness, and behavior who will help you develop your complete lifestyle plan. Their role is to help you create an individualized plan that will meet your long-term needs rather than just a short term weight loss fix.

What can I expect in a session?

A typical session can include education, behavioral therapy, and progress checks. In addition, you may be scheduled for individual sessions with one of our staff members, depending upon your individual needs and concerns.  A sample schedule is included in your inquiry packet. During the time between sessions it is required that you do all of the necessary fitness routines and dietary changes prescribed. For weight management to work, you must be an active participant, both in and outside of the sessions.

How often do I meet with a specialist?

When you enter the program, you receive individual medical, nutrition, behavioral health, and fitness assessments. Following the assessments, clients will schedule a weekly check-in with professional staff. Many clients elect to get additional help for a fee as part of their program which can include fitness sessions, behavioral therapy sessions, chiropractic treatments, acupuncture treatments, etc..

Who are the clinical staff?

The staff consists of experts in the treatment of obesity and related medical problems, including diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Professional staff members include physicians and other medical providers, exercise trainers, massage therapists, physical therapists, chiropractors, registered dietitians, behavioral specialists, and health coaches. All are caring and dedicated to helping you achieve your goals. You can view more information about our clinical staff in the Our Specialists section of this website.

How much weight can I expect to lose in two or four weeks?

Since this is an outpatient treatment program and unsupervised while you are not on site your weight loss is determined by your efforts. Weight loss amounts vary depending on many factors. However, your individual overall weight loss should be 1 to 2 percent of total body weight within the first year, but again there are many factors to consider. As part of your treatment planning we will help you understand these factors and determine a safe weight loss goal with you.

What if I don't know what my goals are for my weight management?

If you aren't sure what your goals are, your first task is to figure that out. When you enter into the program you will be assessed and we will help you determine a realistic goal and time line in order to reach that goal.

Does your program treat bulimia and anorexia? Will you accept clients with binge eating disorders in your program?

Clients with bulimia, anorexia, or severe eating disorders are not accepted into the program. We can help with referrals for those who need further assistance. We do provide treatment for binge eating disorders. Once an individual has completed the assessment our specialist will help you determine the best treatment plan for you.

The Therapeutic Weight Loss Clinic does not participate in any insurance agreements or managed care contracts, and therefore does not file insurance claims.
